Wall & brick details
Mortar-bag coverage varies by brand and joint size — adjust the number above if your bag's label says otherwise.
Estimates only — always add your own contingency and confirm against your supplier's coverage figures before ordering.
How this calculator works
The number of bricks in a wall comes down to how much wall area one brick covers once you include its mortar joint. A bigger joint or a bigger brick means fewer bricks per square foot — and the reverse is true for small bricks with thin joints.
A few notes on the numbers above:
- Openings: subtract the combined area of doors, windows, and any other gaps in the wall — they don't need bricks.
- Waste allowance: 10% is a common default to cover cuts, breakage, and pattern offsets; increase it for complex layouts.
- Mortar bags: this is a rough estimate based on bricks-per-bag, which varies by mix and joint thickness — check your product's coverage chart for anything beyond a rough budget.
